At Blossom Home Care, we pride ourselves on promoting independence with our bloomin’ good home care services. Our holistic approach and bespoke care plans ensure that we provide high-quality home care services, allowing you to continue living your life, as much as possible, as you did before needing care at home.
In this blog, we cover what home care is, how you and your family can benefit from the right services, and the different kinds of care we offer.
What is Home Care?
Home care is an ideal alternative to care facilities because you receive flexible support from qualified professional carers in the comfort of your own home.
Depending on your needs, at-home carers can assist you with various activities and chores, including washing and dressing, preparing food, general housekeeping, administering medication, and supporting social activities.
What are the Benefits of Using Home Care Services?
Care at home can be a life-changing option for people who face losing their independence, rely on family members for support, or have to consider moving to a care home. As well as being able to stay in the comfort of your own home, many other benefits come with these services:
- Maintaining your independence – Requiring care can make you feel dependent on others, even though you may not want to be. Care services at home allow you to control how often a carer visits and what you’d like them to do. That way, you can do what you’d like, where you’d like, with the option of professional assistance.
- Relieving stress for family members – Loved ones can become overworked from trying to provide quality care when they don’t have the time or capacity to do so. Having a trusted carer on hand significantly alleviates your loved one’s stress. Family members can also use the Blossom Home Care app for full transparency on the care you are receiving, giving them peace of mind.
- Receiving personalised support – Care packages are tailored to an individual’s wants and needs. At assessment, we understand what kind of care you require – for example, whether it’s personal, live-in, or palliative care — and learn about your hobbies and interests.
- Companionship – Carers and clients are carefully matched based on the client’s specific care needs and develop a mutual understanding over time, often becoming very ’caring’ friends. It is vitally important that you trust the people assisting you and can openly communicate with them. We also ensure that our carers are well supported and expertly trained so that they always feel motivated and passionate about providing you with care.
- Quality care – One-on-one care means that you receive undivided attention and focus throughout your caregiver’s visits. In residential care homes, on the other hand, caregiving is often divided among multiple people with different kinds of care needs. Thus, receiving home care services means a better quality of care is delivered.
What are the Different Kinds of Home Care Services?
There is an extensive range of services available, depending on your individual needs:
- Home and personal care – This covers a wide variety of personal needs, such as bathing, dressing, grooming (nails and hair care), prescription and medication management, dietary assistance (cooking and serving meals), household cleaning, hobby participation, and general to-do list items.
- Dementia care – Dementia care services are incredibly unique to each client. As such, carers should never operate on a one-size-fits-all basis. However, there are some standard procedures to expect in dementia care, like regular mobility monitoring, fall management, catheter care, and continence management, which may be required as dementia progresses.
- Live-in care – A professional carer lives with you in your home, providing constant support and attending to your mental and physical wellbeing. Having a live-in carer provides companionship and personalised support. Live-in services can also be applied to all other home care services if needed.
- Complex care – This is for people with long-term conditions who suffer from a lack of independence or those returning home from the hospital with ongoing care needs. Complex care covers a range of long-term conditions, including but not limited to brain and spinal injuries, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and cerebral palsy.
- Rehabilitation care – Reablement care aims to re-establish independence for clients who have suffered from life-changing illnesses or are recovering from a major accident or surgery. Carers set daily goals that contribute to your recovery, whether that be helping you out of bed or returning you to your hobbies. Carers can also accompany you to all of your treatments and check-up appointments.
- Palliative care – For clients who have chosen to spend their last moments at home, expertly trained carers will deliver compassionate end-of-life care. Carers work in constant cooperation with the client and their family, as well as local NHS providers involved in the process. They understand the importance of respecting religious beliefs and traditions, which is why, when planning your end-of-life care, you will be asked about any wishes or preferences you may have.
- Disability care – Having a disability may make it harder to move around, which is why disability carers are trained in moving and handling clients respectfully and patiently. As well as assisting with home and personal care, your carer can also undertake stoma and catheter care, if required.
- Respite care – With an estimated 5.8 million people providing care for loved ones, respite care services offer longer-term or temporary relief for regular caregivers. This allows your regular caregiver to take a break when required, while our carers provide the same level of care you would normally receive.
