Good Care Month is back for another celebration throughout July.
The purpose of this awareness campaign is to shine an incredibly deserved spotlight on the remarkable contributions and commitment of care workers across the UK. It also serves as an inspiration to the public, showcasing care as a fulfilling and viable career choice.
It’s an occasion we are only too keen to mark. Unfortunately, many carers across the country face challenging working conditions, inadequate pay, and poor work-life balance. These factors can make it difficult for even the most dedicated carers to consistently deliver the high level of care that clients deserve.
Since our inception, we have been on a mission to redefine what it means to work in care. It’s why we do things differently: we believe in treating our carers with the same respect and consideration as our clients, providing the supportive working environment their hard work truly deserves.
This approach not only attracts the best carers with the right attitude and qualities for the role, but also positively impacts our clients’ wellbeing. To highlight this, we’ve collected just a few of the countless ways our carers have gone above and beyond to dramatically improve the lives of clients and positively impact the local community.
Enabling a wonderful client to attend a moving Remembrance Sunday service
In November 2023, our carers assisted a former serviceman client to attend a deeply meaningful Remembrance Sunday event at a church in Catterick, North Yorkshire. This service held great significance for the client, and our dedicated care team worked diligently to ensure his wish to attend was realised.
Understanding the emotional and physical challenges involved in attending such an event, the client’s care team meticulously planned the day, including arranging comfortable transportation and ensuring a smooth journey to and from the church.
Throughout the service, our carers were at his side, providing support and companionship. Their presence allowed him to participate fully in the event, engage with fellow veterans and community members, share stories, and pay his respects.
Raising money for local charities
The Blossom Canterbury office organised a grand Family Fun Day to support the Help for Teagan campaign. This charity assists a local young girl who has spent her life grappling with Lennox-Gastaut syndrome, an exceptionally severe form of epilepsy causing up to 300 seizures a day.
As well as the event, the care team organised several fundraising initiatives to encourage donations for this crucial cause – Teagan’s medication costs £2,000 per month – demonstrating our commitment to supporting not only our clients, but also the wider community.
Transforming one client’s journey to recovery
One of our clients, who has complex medical needs and severe anxiety and PTSD linked to previous negative care experiences, has had her life transformed by our dedicated care team.
The compassionate, holistic care she received from our carers was so impactful that she felt compelled to write us an amazing letter expressing her gratitude.
Such stories highlight the profound difference our carers make in the lives of those they serve, providing not just physical care, but also emotional support and reassurance.
