Blossom Home Care’s Registered Regional Support Manager, Carri Walters, was recently a guest on the Leaders Council podcast speaking to the host, Scott Challinor. The Leaders Council of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is currently interviewing leadership figures in an attempt to understand what leadership in business means today.
Of course, we were extremely proud to hear that Carri would be interviewed about her leadership experiences as it provided an opportunity to showcase Carri’s experience in care and the part Carri has played in the development of the Blossom Home Care brand.
Carri, who was a Regional Finalist for the Home Care Registered Manager Award in the Great British Care Awards 2018 and 2019, was asked a series of questions about leadership, the role it has played in her career to date, and how Blossom Home Care had managed and delivered its services to service users throughout the Covid-19 pandemic.
When asked what advice Carri had, based on her own experience, for people who may be aspiring to step into leadership roles and run their own business in the future, Carri responded “There’s a big difference between leadership and management.” Carri acknowledged “As well as clearly and succinctly communicating your goals to your team, you also have to be able to delegate specific tasks and confirm understanding. That’s where your listening skills come in. Listening helps you understand the intentions and feelings of your team, and I find that my team feel more open, positive, and motivated when they are being heard. As a leader, I want my team to be constantly striving to deliver their best and, as their leader, I’m striving to do the same.”
After hearing the podcast, John Leggott, Blossom Home Care’s co-founder, said “This is an exciting time for Blossom Home Care as we expand the brand nationally through franchising. As Carri leads much of the franchise training, she will be working with like-minded leaders who have decided they want to run their own home care franchise delivering Blossom’s just bloomin’ good care. We’re looking forward to seeing Carri continue to develop her leadership skills as she guides franchisees toward success whilst studying Masters level management courses.”
Scott Challinor commented “Hosting a show like this, where you speak to genuine leaders who have been there and done it, either on a national stage or within a crucial industry sector, is an absolute honour.”
